My name is Dave Henning

What you are looking at is a picture of a confident outgoing guy who likes meeting new people and creating lasting friendships. I wasn't always that way. I always felt like I wasn't good enough and was told so more than once. In high school, every sport I tried out for, I got cut from the team. Baseball, track, basketball. I finally tried cross country because at least I could run like Forrest Gump. I quit sports when that coach said I wasn't good enough for the Varsity team even though I made the local newspaper for being the top Junior Varsity runner. Fast forward to 1988, when I first met my friend John Maxwell. He was speaking at a conference on the south shore of Boston. This was long before he wrote his myriad of best selling books we know him for today. We were so impressed with this young leader's powerful message, that about ninety of us from all across New England boarded a jet out of Logan Airport and flew all the way to San Diego, where John hosted us for a week long private leadership training. That encounter impacted me for the rest of my life. Fast forward to 2001. John was speaking at a leadership event in Raleigh, North Carolina. From Charlotte, I drove up to see my friend and mentor. While others were getting their favorite Maxwell book autographed, I brought my photograph of the two of us in San Diego. John graciously signed it, "Dave, keep leading" March 30, 2001.
